Victor Ong ’16

February 2012: Congratulations to Victor Ong for his impressive, nationally-ranked VFW essay win!

Victor’s VFW Patriot’s Pen essay won first place at the Honolulu VFW post level, first place at the Hawaii state level, and 37th place nationally! This is the first year in the VFW Patriot’s Pen history that a Hawaii essay has ranked nationally for a scholarship. Victor was honored at the state level on February 11. He read his essay entitled “Are You Proud of Your Country?” before members of the Hawaii state VFW chapters and to other student winners.

Summer Corry and Kyla Kobayashi will join Victor in April at the post-level awards.

Out of over 1,000 submissions, Victor had his photograph selected at the Disney Aulani Photo contest conducted this past spring. He received a $100 gift card and will have his photos become part of the rainbow mural, which will be located at the entrance of the Disney resort in Ko’olina.
