Congratulations to MBTA student Randi Lau for earning a full athletic scholarship to Louisiana State University (LSU). She recently signed a letter of intent with the Tigers and will compete as a freshman in the Fall of 2012. Randi is a three-time U.S. National qualifier and a two-time Junior Olympic qualifier.

“We are delighted to recruit such an outstanding young lady,” LSU gymnastic head coach D-D Breaux said. “Her academics, athletics and quality as an individual make her a real fit for our program. Her experience as an elite level competitor on the USA National Team and her skill level will make her an instant contributor to our 2012 efforts to bring our team back to the NCAA Championships and Super Six.”

She is the first gymnast from Hawaii to compete for LSU.

“I chose LSU because their team is such a welcoming family. They’re so supportive of my academic and athletic career,” Randi said. “I’m so glad to represent Kokokahi Gymnastics and Hawaii, and compete on a national level.”

Randi is a graduating Junior at MBTA and will receive her diploma next month with the class of 2011. She has been attending MBTA since the 8th grade and shared how MBTA’s online learning environment had helped her with her sport.

“MBTA has supported me from the first day I attended their school. They encouraged my dedication and excellence in academic as well as athletics. They online aspect of the school allowed me to have a very flexible schedule so I could travel the world and still be able to complete my school work.”

This past weekend, Randi competed in the J.O. Regional Championship in Pullman, WA and placed third overall in the senior B division. This secured her a spot to compete in the Nationals on May 13, 2011 in Long Beach, CA.

Randi will travel to Baton Rouge this summer to join the Tigers.
